Why Do Moms Choose To Stay Home? 4 Good Reasons

The U.S. Census Bureau reported an estimated 5.6 million moms choose to stay at home. That is a 22% increase from 1994. Even in today's economy more and more moms are choosing to stay at home and raise their children.

There are Pro's and Con's and several factors to consider in deciding whether to stay at home or not. Below are just a few of many to think about.

Child Care Cost

The cost for full-time child care can range from $100 to $200 each week. In addition to saving child care cost, stay at home moms can save on other expenses such as gas, car repairs, clothing, and food.

Dependable Child Care

Choosing who will take care of your child can be a difficult decision. There are day care facilities, family members, and individual baby sitters to choose from. How dependable are they going to be and how safe of an environment will your child be in are other questions to ask on choosing child care.

Missing Those "First" Moments

There is nothing worse than getting a phone call from the sitter telling you that your child took his or her first step. Babies change on a daily basis and once the change has happened it can't be repeated. Everything new that a baby does is a once in a lifetime event. When a mom stays at home she will be there for all those "first" moments.

Quality Time for Self

Taking care of a household, working outside the house, possibly going to school, and raising a family adds strain on a mom. If she decides to stay home she can plan some time during the day to do something for herself. It might be to take on a hobby or maybe a home based business to help supplement the household income.
