Eight Little Known Facts About Pregnancy

lovenewbabyFor any couple who are trying to have a child together they want to learn as much as they can not only about how to conceive a child, but what happens when the woman does become pregnant. Certainly the more a couple understand this stage of life then of course the more prepared they will be to cope with anything that should happen throughout the pregnancy. When it comes to pregnancy facts we all know the basics. But in this article we take a look at some of the more obscure ones.

Fact 1 - Every month a normal couple will have a 25 percent chance of being able to conceive a baby together.

Fact 2 - What many couples do not realize is that there is only a 5 to 7 day window of opportunity for couples to have intercourse and which will most likely result in the woman then become pregnant.

Fact 3 - Not many but a few women will claim that they have actually been able to feel when the ovaries release the eggs.

Fact 4 - Around 80 percent of all healthy couples will find that the woman becomes pregnant within a year of them actually choosing to live together.

Fact 5 - It is important that a woman during her pregnancy consumes sufficient amounts of folic acid. If a pregnant woman does not have enough folic acid in her body this can result in the child being born with severe deformities including brain or spinal cord defects.

Fact 6 - It is vital that during the first stage (trimester) of her pregnancy a woman does not bath in a hot bath as this could cause injury to her unborn child. Research has been carried out and clearly shows that if the woman's body heat is high during the first 3 months of her pregnancy it may lead to the child being born with certain birth defects.

Fact 7 - Where a couple own a cat then it is important that during the pregnancy the woman does not actually clean out the animals litter tray. In it may be a parasite that can spread a disease to women when pregnant known as toxoplasmosis. This disease can result in the child being born with defects including brain damage or blindness.

Fact 8 - A woman who weighs a healthy amount can expect during her pregnancy to gain an additional 25 to 35 pounds in weight. However for women who are considered to be overweight on average these women can expect to put on a further 15 to 25 pounds during their pregnancy. But if a woman is considered to be underweight then the weight she may gain during her pregnancy can range from 28 to 40 pounds, but this is dependent on what she weighed prior to becoming pregnant. Plus of course if a woman is going to be having more than one child (a multiple birth) then of course she can expect to gain even more weight.

Above we have looked at a few of the more obscure pregnancy facts; however, a quick search online and you will find even more.

Why Do Moms Choose To Stay Home? 4 Good Reasons

The U.S. Census Bureau reported an estimated 5.6 million moms choose to stay at home. That is a 22% increase from 1994. Even in today's economy more and more moms are choosing to stay at home and raise their children.

There are Pro's and Con's and several factors to consider in deciding whether to stay at home or not. Below are just a few of many to think about.

Child Care Cost

The cost for full-time child care can range from $100 to $200 each week. In addition to saving child care cost, stay at home moms can save on other expenses such as gas, car repairs, clothing, and food.

Dependable Child Care

Choosing who will take care of your child can be a difficult decision. There are day care facilities, family members, and individual baby sitters to choose from. How dependable are they going to be and how safe of an environment will your child be in are other questions to ask on choosing child care.

Missing Those "First" Moments

There is nothing worse than getting a phone call from the sitter telling you that your child took his or her first step. Babies change on a daily basis and once the change has happened it can't be repeated. Everything new that a baby does is a once in a lifetime event. When a mom stays at home she will be there for all those "first" moments.

Quality Time for Self

Taking care of a household, working outside the house, possibly going to school, and raising a family adds strain on a mom. If she decides to stay home she can plan some time during the day to do something for herself. It might be to take on a hobby or maybe a home based business to help supplement the household income.

Why I Bought A Graco Nautilus Rachel 3 in 1 Car Seat For My Little Girl

If you are thinking about buying a car seat for your little girl, you may have already come across the Graco Nautilus Rachel model. I did a lot of research online before finally deciding on this model and I chose it for the reasons I have explained below. I found it at a great price too!

Safety First!

The reasons I chose the Graco Nautilus Rachel were first and foremost because it ticked all the boxes from the safety recommendations I had researched from the American Academy of Pediatrics for children between 20 lbs and 100 lbs in weight.

When you are thinking of buying a car seat, nothing is more precious than the safety of your child but you have to consider cost too and this seat is brilliant from this point of view because for smaller children, between 20 - 65 lbs, the Graco Nautilus secures your child safely in a five point harness. When she grows bigger, you do not need to spend money on a new car seat as the Nautilus converts to a belt positioning booster (suitable from 30 lbs in weight) and then, when she grows bigger still, you still do not need to spend out on another car seat as the nautilus converts to a backless booster seat which will take her safely through from 40 lbs right up to 100 lbs in weight which should see her through to sitting in a normal adult seatbelt in the rear of the car.

Of course, when thinking of economy from this point of view, I had to reassure myself of the standard of manufacture of these seats as there would be no point in buying one to take her through to 12 years if it was going to be worn out by the time she is four! I read lots of reviews, all of which were very reassuring.

Easy To Install And Adjust

If you are like me, you want things simple and I wanted the installation to be as simple as possible so I could be absolutely certain I had got it right. The Nautilus is simplicity itself to install and easy to adjust too.

It's So Pretty Too!

If you want to know the other reason I chose the Graco Nautilus Rachel, it was quite simply because, being the Mom of a little girl, I chose pink! The Rachel is so pretty - there is another model called Daisy which is lovely too but it had to be the Rachel for my little girl!

Why Moms Breastfeed

First time mothers have many things that they need to prepare for. They will go from being able to drink and eat whatever they need to consuming only that which their unborn baby is able to eat up without being sick. This change in lifestyle remain on even after the child is born. This is especially true for those mothers who choose to nurse.

Breastfeeding is an alternative that a few mothers will decide to do and others may refuse. In some cases women who wish to feed their infants in this way are not able to because their bodies just will not permit it. If you are still on the fence about this than you must think about the benefits that it has to offer.

Immune System

One of the biggest reasons why women might choose this is the measure of nutrients that it has to offer to the child. It contains vitamins, proteins, and nutrients that work with the child's body and will aid to promote the immune system. This will allow them to handle various problems that may affect them - but they will have an easier time trying to get over it.

Growth

The next biggest benefit to consider is the way in which your baby will grow. It is significant that they consume the needed nutrients and vitamins that will permit their body and mind to produce at the proper rate. This is still manageable with formula - but it is not as capable.

No Preparation

I know that it is a minor reward - but when your new baby wakes up at 12 in the morning it is easier to feed them directly from you than working to prepare a bottle. They can get the right measure of food no matter when it is. You could even use a breastfeeding pump to hold any milk on the hours that you are at work.
