There are multiple reasons for infertility in both men and women. Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after attempting to get pregnant for one year. Some reasons are really simple and easy to correct. Other reasons are very complex and takes considerable time just to determine what the cause is for the infertility.
Usually for men the problem of infertility is due to a low count of sperm. The reasons for this problem are many. Some of these reasons include:
? Variocele
? Lifestyle
? Excessive smoking
? Use of illegal drugs
? Wearing tight pants
? Soaking in hot tubs
? Medications
? Certain medical conditions.
These reasons for infertility in men are relatively easy to correct in most situations can be corrected fairly easy.
The main cause of infertility in women is related to ovulation.
There are several reasons for ovulation reduction including:
? Situations that are stressful
? Age
? Medical Conditions
Even though the direct relationship of stress with infertility continues to be researched there is at least an indirect relationship since extreme stress can delay the ovulation cycle for a woman which will affect the chance for conception.
Age for a woman is a big factor to infertility. As a woman gets older the ovulation cycle starts to slow down. The age with the highest probability of pregnancy is late teens to early twenties.
There are several medical conditions which can be a reason for infertility in women including:
? Cervical condition caused by infection and disease
? Scar tissue
? Blocked fallopian tubes
? Uterine Fibroids
? Abnormality of the uterine lining
The first step of treating infertility is to determine which partner
has the infertility problem. The sooner you identify the reason for infertility the quicker you can find the solutions to your problem.
The treatments and testing for infertility are also varied based upon the reason for the infertility. Both partners will probably need to have testing. Other testing or treatments may be required based upon the results of the initial test. There are also some procedures using both for testing and treatment. These can be painful and very costly. A couple should go into infertility testing understanding the cost. Treatment also can consist of medications which are also costly.
No matter what the reasons for infertility are or what the cost of treatment is, when conception occurs it will be worth it all.
