How to Increase Your Odds of Conceiving a Boy

Every couple wants their baby to be happy and healthy first and foremost. Beyond that however, many couples have a preference for which gender they would like to have. Some may already have a girl, or more than one girl, and wonder how to conceive a boy for a different experience. Others may simply prefer the idea of raising a boy to a girl. Either way, wanting one gender or the other is very common and quite normal.

Based on statistics, the odds of having a boy are already slightly higher than of having a girl. With some additional methods, you may be able to influence those odds even more. Consider trying some of these tips for getting pregnant with a boy.

There are two methods of timing intercourse that are said to result in conception of a boy. The Shettle Method relies on the concept that Y chromosome sperm swim faster and will reach the egg faster. Therefore, having intercourse closer to ovulation will allow the Y chromosomes to get there first, and fertilize the egg before the X chromosomes can catch up.

The second, the Whelan Method, recommends having intercourse early in the monthly cycle and using condoms in the later days of the cycle. These both rely on telling a couple when to get pregnant to maximize the chances of a boy.

Finally, some herbal supplement such as Evening Primrose Oil may make conceiving a boy more likely by impacting cervical mucus. The over the counter drug Guaifenesin is also know to thin cervical mucus - but you should always talk to your doctor before using these or any other drugs or supplements.

A baby gender test done later in pregnancy is the only sure way to find out if a boy is on the way.
