Maternity Belly Casts

Pregnancy belly casts are an excellent way to cherish the phases of maternity with a three dimensional art form. Photographs can be great, but maternity molds produce a unique piece of keepsake commemorating the stages of a woman's pregnancy that could be done up, colored, or decorated with anything the expecting mother wants, to lend it some special motherly feel all her own.

A belly cast for pregnancy can be developed during any stage of pregnancy, but the perfect moment is between months 7 and nine when the tummy is in its largest form. Some women prefer to make a single tummy cast while some others prefer a replica of their swollen tummy after couple of months.

Pregnancy belly molds can be bought in a starter set which includes everything required, including all directions for the process, or if the pregnant woman desires, she can create her personal. Tummy casts are very preferred with pregnant women these days and are not difficult to do at all.

No matter a kit is bought or a self made tummy mold is preferred, the techniques to apply the stomach cast and the resulting cast are the same. It is recommended that the pregnant woman have a helper in any case. To begin, each of the supplies must be collected and a ground cover applied to the work section, for example a drop-cloth or a dirty sheet, and a comfortable place for the pregnant woman to sit because the procedure can take sometime.

To begin, cover the area to be cast with Vaseline or something similar, keep the strips of plastered gauze over the lubricated area and let it set for approximately half an hour. The pregnancy stomach mold should then be taken out by gently shaking it loose and removed by your friend.

Place the maternity tummy cast some place out of the way so it can set completely over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours. After it is completed a primer called Gesso must be painted on to the pregnancy stomach cast to prevent it from being destroyed by moisture. It can also be used as a paint-primer for the completed tummy replica.

Special creative know how is not needed for this process, only time, hard work, and some imagination. Make sure that all coloring to the gestational stomach cast is performed after it has been removed from the pregnant woman because, although the plaster is not destructive to the skin, components from paint can be destructive to both mother and baby.
